About Body Composition Analysis
Linda will measure your body composition by using the Tanita Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology. It is a quick and painless process that simply requires you to step on a scale in your bare feet. You will not have to undress or be pinched by calipers. You will be in contact with a "foot to foot" pressure contact electrode. The BIA technique is based on the fact that lean tissues have a high water and electrolyte content, and thus provide a good electrical pathway. Fat mass contains a lower percentage of body water, and thus is a poor conductor of the electrical signal.
Trending your body composition consistently over a period of several weeks and months will provide helpful insight into the success of your diet and exercise program. Short term changes are usually caused by normal day to day hydration variances. The BIA measurements will provide valuable information about changes in your:
- Weight
- Body Mass Index
- Percent Body Fat
- Fat Free Mass (bone, muscle, tissue and water)
- Hydration
In order to obtain the most accurate results, please plan ahead for the following conditions:
- Be able to remove your socks or hose
- No alcohol for 48 hours before the test
- Avoid intense exercise 12 hours before the test
- Avoid eating or drinking (especially caffeinated products) 4 hours before the test
- Empty bladder 30 minutes before the test
Please inform Linda if you are pregnant or have a pace maker or other internal medical device. In these cases the test will not be done.
